"Research and industry collaboration for the public good."

Thinking about doing some new planting? Just looking for something cool on the internet? Whether you're a gardener or just an internet techie, you'll love the RI Agricultural Experiment Station's online outreach project, Virtual Gardens.

Moving around inside spherical 360-degree images, the site really puts you in the driver's seat. QuickTime VR is an imaging technology that allows users to explore and examine photorealistic, 3D virtual worlds using your mouse and keyboard.

You can pan from left to right, up and down and zoom in on hundreds of beautiful and interesting plants and woody species. Click on individual to bring up colorful macro shots, along with text and voice descriptions.

Visit the actual URI Learning Landscape on the URI's Kingston Campus. It features evergreen plantings, perennial and annual flowering beds, and a water garden. Species were chosen for this garden which require minimal use of pesticides, water, fertilizers, and maintenance.

"Sustainable Trees and Shrubs", a URI Cooperative Extension publication is available for a nominal fee by contacting the CE center at (401) 874-2900. This extensive list of sustainable plants will help you create and expand your own sustainable landscape.

We are proud to bring the beauty and education of URI's Learning Landscape to you via the internet. We hope you will agree that it is the closest thing to actually being there.

The URI Virtual Gardens and the Learning Landscape are made possible by the RI Nursery and Landscape Association.
