Introduction: The Experiment Station operates under the Hatch Act of 1882 (see RIAES history), as amended by Congress. The most recent amendment-the Agricultural Research, Extension and Education Reform Act (AREERA) of 1998- established requirements for a formal five-year plan of work.

The RIAES Plan was written as an integrated plan that includes the Rhode Island Cooperative Extension. Approved in July 1999, the plan covered fiscal years 2000 through 2004.

The plan outlines seven program areas, which are supported by ongoing research projects. Each program description includes related Extension activities. The plan also outlines approaches to stakeholder listening, multistate collaborations, and peer and merit review.

RIAES and CE maintain an ongoing and open planning process. To this end, the Plan of Work was updated on October 12, 2004. The Plan of Work Update describes activities to be undertaken during fiscal years 2005 and 2006.

We anticipate further review and revisions of our plans; When complete, these proposed revisions will be posted here as well.
